Abstract

A methodology is presented in this article on how to calculate the unemployment rates between 2005 and 2015, using male and female labour flow data from the Active Population Flow Survey. The results show that: (i) the unemployment rates have increased as a consequence of the higher transition probabilities from employment to unemployment (up to 2009) and the smaller transition probability from unemployment to employment (up to 2013), and (ii) that women, despite having similar characteristics to men, have a lower probability than men to move from unemployment to employment.
